Washington Explodes Up the Board, Albany Makes History, and the League’s Middle Tier Gets Shaken Again
Week 6 may not have changed the top four, but it completely reshaped the conversation underneath them.
The biggest story of the week belongs to the Washington Wolfpack, who surged four spots after their second straight victory. A dominant performance that may have finally changed how the rest of the league views them.
Meanwhile, the Albany Firebirds continued their historic run, the Minnesota Monsters remained locked in at No. 4 during a bye week, and the chaos in the bottom half of the rankings somehow became even tighter.

Albany Keeps Winning and Makes Arena Football History
The top of the rankings remains untouched, and for good reason.
The Albany Firebirds were once again the unanimous No. 1 team after surviving a late scare from Michigan in a thrilling 60-57 win that came down to the final play of the game.
With the victory, Albany now holds the arena football record for consecutive regular season wins with 16 straight, continuing one of the most dominant stretches the modern game has seen.
What made the performance even more impressive was Michigan’s level of play. The Arsenal pushed Albany further than anyone this season, but the Firebirds still found a way to close it out. Something the Firebirds have done time and time again over the last season and a half.
Minnesota Remains Locked In at No. 4
Even during a bye week, the Minnesota Monsters continued to strengthen their standing across the league.
Minnesota remained a unanimous No. 4 selection this week, reinforcing how firmly voters now view the expansion franchise as part of the AF1’s upper tier.
At this point, the top four feel increasingly defined:
- Albany
- Kentucky
- Nashville
- Minnesota
And for another week, nobody cracked that structure.
Washington’s Statement Week Changes Everything
No team moved more than the Washington Wolfpack, who jumped four spots from No. 9 to No. 5 after delivering one of the most explosive performances of the AF1 season.
Washington defeated the Oregon Lightning 79-19, scoring a franchise-record 79 points while holding the Lightning to just 19. The 79 points are also the second-highest single-game total in the AF1 this season.
More importantly, it was Washington’s second straight win, and this time voters responded.
Just three weeks removed from being the unanimous No. 9 team in the rankings, the Wolfpack finally broke through in a major way this week. Their dominant win over Oregon validated the steady progress they’ve made over the last several weeks and pushed them firmly into the league’s most competitive cluster.
That’s how quickly things can change in the AF1.
Michigan Earns Respect in a Loss
Despite slipping one spot, the Michigan Arsenal may have strengthened their reputation more than any losing team this season.
Michigan pushed undefeated Albany to the brink, losing 60-57 on the final play while proving they can compete with the league’s best team for four full quarters.
In fact, Washington and Michigan finished in a statistical tie for No. 5, with the final ranking only decided by point differential, narrowly placing Michigan at No. 6.
That result says a lot about how close the middle tier remains.
Oceanside Continues to Linger in the Middle
The Oceanside Bombers stayed at No. 7 despite a 63-49 loss to Nashville, but the result carried more weight than a typical defeat.
The Bombers scored more points against the Kats than any team has managed all season, showing flashes of offensive potential even in defeat.
That performance may not have moved them up, but it likely kept them from falling further.
Bottom Line
The top of the AF1 remains remarkably stable.
Albany continues to make history. Kentucky and Nashville remain firmly planted behind them. Minnesota has completely solidified itself at No. 4.
But underneath that?
Everything is still moving.
One dominant performance launched Washington four spots upward. One close loss kept Michigan highly competitive in the voting. And one rough week sent Oregon from No. 8 to a unanimous No. 9.
The middle and bottom tiers of the AF1 are still one mis-kick off the net, one drive, one result away from a completely different order next week.
