Minnesota Surges to No. 3 as the Playoff Picture Takes Center Stage
For much of the season, the AF1 Fan Zone Power Rankings have been defined by stability.
Week 13 changed that.
The Minnesota Monsters delivered one of the most dominant performances of the season, defeating the Kentucky Barrels 60-8 and vaulting from No. 5 to No. 3 in this week’s rankings. Meanwhile, Nashville and Albany continued to strengthen their hold on the top two positions, setting the stage for a massive Week 14 showdown with the No. 1 playoff seed on the line.

Minnesota Finally Breaks Through
For weeks, Minnesota hovered just outside the top three.
The Monsters repeatedly challenged Kentucky in both the standings and the voting, often finishing just short of moving up the board. This week, there was no debate.
Minnesota’s 60-8 victory over Kentucky was one of the most lopsided results of the AF1 season and immediately reshaped the middle of the rankings.
The win moves the Monsters to No. 3, their highest ranking of the season, and further validates what voters have been signaling for weeks: Minnesota belongs among the league’s top contenders.
Nashville and Albany Stay the Course
The top of the rankings remained unchanged.
Nashville rolled to a 68-30 victory over Washington, while Albany handled Beaumont 66-48 on the road.
As a result, the Kats remain the unanimous No. 1 team in the rankings, with Albany continuing to hold the No. 2 position.
Now comes the matchup everyone has been waiting for.
Week 14 will feature Nashville and Albany meeting head-to-head with the No. 1 playoff seed at stake, giving the league’s top two teams a chance to settle the debate on the field.
Michigan Remains in the Hunt
Despite falling one spot to No. 4, Michigan remains firmly in the championship conversation.
The Arsenal did not play in Week 13, but Minnesota’s dominant victory was enough to push the Monsters ahead in the rankings.
The gap between the two teams was razor thin. Minnesota edged Michigan by just 0.17 points in the final voting, making the battle for No. 3 one of the closest decisions on the ballot.
Michigan’s recent victories over Albany, Minnesota, and Washington continue to carry significant weight with voters, and the Arsenal remain positioned to move back up with another strong performance.
Kentucky’s Fall Raises Questions
No team experienced a bigger drop this week than Kentucky.
The Barrels entered Week 13 ranked No. 4 but fell two spots after a 60-8 loss to Minnesota.
Kentucky’s ballots ranged from fourth to eighth place, illustrating just how divided voters were when evaluating the team this week. Significant roster turnover has created uncertainty around a team that spent much of the season comfortably inside the top three.
The result was a statistical tie with Beaumont for sixth place, with point differential ultimately serving as the tiebreaker.
Just a few weeks ago, Kentucky appeared firmly entrenched near the top of the rankings. Now, their place in the middle tier is far less secure.
Washington Moves Up
Washington climbed one position to No. 5 despite its loss to Nashville.
The Wolfpack benefited from Kentucky’s decline and continue to hold a strong position in one of the league’s most competitive sections of the rankings.
While the final score against Nashville was lopsided, Washington remains a difficult team to evaluate. At times they have looked capable of challenging anyone in the league. At others, inconsistency has limited their climb.
For now, the Wolfpack sit comfortably in the middle of the pack and remain within striking distance of the teams ahead of them.
Voting Notes
There was once again strong agreement at the top and bottom of the ballot.
Nashville, Albany, Beaumont, and Oceanside all held their positions this week, while the most significant movement occurred in the middle of the rankings.
The closest battle was for third place, where Minnesota edged Michigan by just 0.17 points in the final tally.
Kentucky generated the widest range of opinions among voters, receiving ballots at No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, and No. 8. Three voters ranked the Barrels eighth, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding the team following its loss to Minnesota.
Bottom Line
The top of the AF1 has never been clearer.
Nashville and Albany remain firmly established as the league’s top two teams, and Week 14 will give them an opportunity to settle the race for the No. 1 playoff seed head-to-head.
Behind them, however, the rankings continue to evolve.
Minnesota’s dominant win over Kentucky propelled the Monsters into the No. 3 spot, while Michigan remains right on their heels. Washington continues to climb, and Kentucky suddenly finds itself searching for answers after one of the most dramatic drops of the season.
For weeks, the focus was on who belonged in the top tier.
Now the focus shifts to playoff positioning, and every result carries greater weight than the last.
