Michigan Climbs to No. 3 as the Battle Behind Nashville Intensifies
With only two games on the Week 12 schedule, the AF1 Fan Zone Power Rankings saw limited movement. But while only one team changed positions, the storylines behind the rankings continue to evolve.
The Nashville Kats strengthened their grip on the top spot with a dominant victory over Beaumont, while the Michigan Arsenal continued their remarkable late-season surge with a convincing road win over Washington.
The result was enough to move Michigan into the No. 3 position, while Kentucky slipped one spot to No. 4.
AF1 Fan Zone Week 12 Power Rankings

Nashville Continues to Dominate
The Nashville Kats left little doubt about their place atop the rankings this week.
A 72-20 victory over Beaumont was never in question, and the result only reinforced what has become one of the most consistent themes of the second half of the season. Nashville remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the AF1 Fan Zone Power Rankings.
After taking over the top spot in Week 10, the Kats have done nothing to suggest they are ready to give it back.
Michigan’s Rise Continues
The biggest mover this week was Michigan, climbing from No. 4 to No. 3 following a decisive 64-36 road victory over Washington.
Just a few weeks ago, the Arsenal were viewed as a dangerous team capable of challenging the league’s best. Now they’ve built a résumé that includes victories over Albany, Minnesota, and Washington in consecutive weeks.
For much of the season, Michigan faced one of the league’s toughest schedules and often came up just short against the AF1’s elite. Those close calls have turned into signature wins, and voters have responded accordingly.
The Arsenal now sit at No. 3, their highest ranking of the season.
Kentucky’s Grip Begins to Slip
Kentucky remains firmly in the championship conversation, but the Barrels no longer appear as secure in the rankings as they once did.
After spending much of the season locked into the No. 3 position, Kentucky falls to No. 4 this week despite not taking the field.
The drop says less about Kentucky’s performance and more about Michigan’s continued rise. Still, the voting patterns suggest the race behind Nashville and Albany is becoming increasingly competitive.
Minnesota Remains Within Striking Distance
Minnesota held steady at No. 5 this week, but the Monsters remain very much part of the conversation.
In fact, Kentucky and Minnesota finished in a statistical tie in the voting, with point differential once again serving as the tiebreaker.
While Michigan claimed the spotlight this week, Minnesota remains close enough to challenge for a higher position with another strong performance.
Washington Holds at No. 6
Washington’s three-game climb through the rankings paused this week following a 64-36 loss to Michigan.
The Wolfpack remain sixth, but their position is becoming increasingly difficult to hold as the teams immediately above them continue to separate themselves.
Even so, Washington remains firmly in the mix and has shown throughout the second half of the season that it can compete with anyone on the right night.
Voting Notes
There was remarkable agreement at both ends of the ballot once again this week.
Nashville, Albany, Beaumont, and Oceanside were all unanimous selections at their respective positions.
The most significant debate occurred in the middle of the rankings. Kentucky received votes everywhere from No. 3 through No. 6, while Michigan appeared on ballots at No. 3 through No. 5.
The voting reflected just how competitive the race behind Nashville and Albany has become.
Positions three through five were separated by less than a single point in the final tally, while only two points separated No. 3 from No. 6.
The middle of the rankings remains the league’s most hotly contested battleground.
Bottom Line
The debate at the top is over.
Nashville remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the AF1, while Albany continues to hold a firm grip on the No. 2 spot.
This week, the real battle has shifted behind them.
Michigan’s rise to No. 3, Kentucky’s continued slide, and Minnesota’s ability to remain within striking distance have transformed the race for positions three through five into the league’s most compelling storyline.
For the first time all season, Michigan isn’t chasing the top tier. They’re part of it.
However, the battle is far from over.
Week 13 brings a pivotal matchup between Kentucky and Minnesota, two teams separated by a tiebreaker in this week’s voting. With Michigan now sitting at No. 3, the race behind Nashville and Albany could look very different a week from now.
