AF1 Fan Zone: Power Rankings – Week 4

The race at No. 1 tightens as Albany and Kentucky meet in Week 5

For three weeks, the top of the AF1 rankings felt settled. Week 4 took that idea and chipped away at it.

The Albany Firebirds are still No. 1, but not in the way they were before. They now sit in a statistical deadlock with the Kentucky Barrels, with point differential serving as the tiebreaker.

And now, they meet in Week 5.

1. Albany Firebirds – No Change

They’re still No. 1, but now it comes with pressure.

The Albany Firebirds now find themselves in a statistical deadlock with the Kentucky Barrels, separated only by point differential. And now Kentucky is coming to town in Week 5.

For the first time all season, Albany didn’t look untouchable against the Washington Wolfpack.

2. Kentucky Barrels +1

This is what a real challenger looks like.

Kentucky didn’t just climb; they closed the gap completely. A last-play win over the Nashville Kats is what pushed them into the tie at the top and into the No. 2 spot.

Now they get Albany in Week 5.

You couldn’t ask for a clearer opportunity.

3. Nashville Kats -1

They didn’t get outplayed. They got caught at the finish line.

A last-play loss to Kentucky is the difference between holding firm in the top tier and sliding back a spot. In a race this tight, one moment is enough to flip the order.

The good news? They’re still right there. The reality? They’ve got two teams ahead of them now and no margin for error.

4. Minnesota Monsters – No Change

Still steady. Still dangerous.

Minnesota hasn’t made the jump yet, but they haven’t slipped either and that matters in a week where movement was earned, not given. They’re firmly in that “one big win changes everything” tier.

5. Beaumont Renegades – No Change

Holding ground, but not gaining it.

Beaumont is in a bit of a waiting pattern right now. They’re not giving games away, but they’re also not forcing their way into the top-tier conversation either.

At some point, that push has to come.

6. Michigan Arsenal +2

There it is. The breakthrough.

Michigan gets its first win of the season, and it wasn’t just any win. it came against a team sitting right next to them in the rankings. That’s how you climb.

It’s one result, but it matters. Now the question is whether this is a turning point, or just a moment.

7. Oceanside Bombers -1

This one came down to Minnesota.

A loss to the Minnesota Monsters was enough to knock Oceanside back a spot in a crowded middle tier where every result matters. They’re still competitive, but they’re starting to get squeezed as teams around them find their footing.

8. Oregon Lightning -1

Still stuck looking for consistency.

Oregon continues to hover in that middle-to-lower tier without finding a win that shifts perception. At this point, it’s not just about getting a victory—it’s about getting one that comes against someone other than the Washington Wolfpack.

Until that changes, the climb stays on hold.

9. Washington Wolfpack – No Change

Still at the bottom, but not invisible anymore.

The Washington Wolfpack showed real fight against the Albany Firebirds, falling 42–34 but finally putting points on the board in a way that actually mattered.

It didn’t change the result, but it changed the feel. Albany looked a little more human than they have all season and Washington avoided a unanimous No. 9 for the first time since Week 2.

It’s progress, even if it doesn’t show up in the standings yet.

Final Word

When all is said and done, Albany is still No. 1, but Kentucky is right there on their heels.
And in Week 5, that stops being a statistical note and starts becoming a decision.
