Nashville Kats Lose In First Road Game At Albany

by Aidan Napier

Nashville’s team, after dominating over the Minnesota Myth in week one 47-12, headed up north to Albany, New York to face their rival, the Albany Firebirds in a heated week two East Division rivalry game last Thursday night.

The game started slow for the Kats, as the Firebirds would score on their first two opening drives, making light work of Nashville’s stout defense. This wouldn’t last long as a touchdown pass from 4 yards out to Marquise Irvin from Ramone Atkins would begin to turn the ship around for the Kats. With less than 10 seconds remaining in the 2nd quarter, the Kats would score 14 points including 6 from a kickoff that bounced off Albany’s net that Derrick Jones would recover for a quick touchdown, helping the Kats take a 1 point lead, 21-20 going into the locker room.

In the second half, Nashville would play strong, keeping pace with Albany but would ultimately fall short 51-41. The Nashville Kats made a few crucial mistakes that ultimately would cost them the victory at MVP Arena, including a fumble on Albany’s 1 yard line, 5 yard line, and an interception pass by Atkins. The Kats offense quickly learned how easy it is to lose possession even when on smaller fields, their squad will attempt to learn from these mistakes this upcoming Sunday on Mother’s Day against another East Division matchup when the Philadelphia Soul (0-2) head to Nashville. The Kats will look to bounce back as they sit tied with the Minnesota Myth at 1-1 for the second seed in the East Division.
